It all started in 2002 as Surajo shuffled through the clothing racks of one of his favorite retail shops, to leave empty handed because he could not find a blazer to his specific liking. More frequently he found himself settling for things that were substitutes for what he really wanted but could not find in ready-to-wear offerings. He then realized that no brand would listen to what he wanted specifically; it just “wasn’t feasible” so they said. Only if he could get the same ready-to-wear products made in specific ways without going the custom made route, which he couldn’t afford. No one was focusing on the possibilities that existed between ready-to-wear and custom-made. Determined to express his personality via his clothing he landed an apprenticeship were he learned skills of a tailor. He used his acquired skills to begin building a wardrobe to his specific liking. Friends and acquaintances noticed this and made personalized order requests based on a small ready-to-wear collection Surajo created that consisted of classic pieces. It dawned on Surajo that although many people go to other brands and buy things as is, there exists individuals who would like the option of being very specific with fabric texture, pattern, color or weight without going the custom route. So the Surajo Bello brand was born.
